Troubleshoot a Card Reader
Follow these steps to reconnect or otherwise troubleshoot a malfunctioning card reader.
First, determine which card reader you have from the pictures below.
Troubleshoot an eDynamo Card Reader
- Check the indicator light on the card reader.
- If the color is green (solid or blinking): Continue to Step 2.
- If the color is anything else: Stop troubleshooting and contact Support.
- If the light is out: Stop troubleshooting and contact Support.
- On your POS terminal, close the Union POS application and open iPad Settings.
- From the left menu, select “Bluetooth”.
- Write down the card reader's serial number (e.g., eDynamo-######) as displayed on the Bluetooth screen.
> Note: You will need this information later.
- Scroll down the left menu and select “Union”.
- On the Union screen, verify that “Card Reader Model (iPad only)” has the “eDynamo” option selected.
- Verify that the toggle switch next to “Enable Card Reader Pairing (eDynamo)” is switched on and colored green.
- Hold down the small button on the left hand side of eDynamo until light flashes blue to enable pairing.
- Close iPad Settings and reopen the Union POS app.
⇒ Result: When reopening the Union POS app, a popup will display.
- Select the card reader by its serial number, noted in Step 2.
- At the prompt, swipe a test card to complete the pairing process.
- If the pairing is successful: A “Pairing was successful” message will display.
- If the pairing was not successful: Stop troubleshooting and contact Support.
Troubleshoot an iDynamo Card Reader
- Check the indicator light on the card reader.
- If the color is green (solid or blinking): Continue to Step 2.
- If the color is anything else: Stop troubleshooting and contact Support.
- If the light is out: Stop troubleshooting and contact Support.
- On your POS terminal, close the Union POS app.
- Open iPad Settings.
- Scroll down the left menu and select "Union"
- On the Union screen, verify that “Card Reader Model” has the “iDynamo” option selected.
- From the left menu, select “General”.
- Scroll down the page on the right to select "Shut Down".
- With the iPad powered off, unplug its power source from either the back of the iPad or the power outlet.
- Wait for the iPad to completely shut down.
- Plug the power source back in.
⇒ Note: Plugging the power source back in should automatically turn on the iPad terminal.
